Poker Rules
Overview:
* Please note that the rules only apply to the casino. The rules are online and at tournaments they may differ slightly by region and organization. *
In all poker games the action starts with the use of ante and blind. The blind (all games in which a dealer button is) makes the first bet. The big blind is the opening bet and each player after the big blind, this value (if its your turn) call, fold or raise. Nobody can check into this round. The ante should be payed by all players. This commitment is really only used with tournaments.
In games with a dealer button first they will deal one card to each player to determine who gets the dealer button. The player with the highest card wins. After each hand the dealer button rotates clockwise to the next player. It can prevent a stack chips on the table, while the player is gone. The dealer button just keeps on moving as usual.
The first player left of the dealer button gets the first hand dealt. After all the cards and all players have acted, then the player with the big blind has the option to raise. This is the only time a player can raise his own bet. Any player who comes back in the game and missed the blind, the blind still add to the pot. This is also called dead money. This player also has the option to increase its own efforts - as the big blind in a first round of betting which is not elevated.
It may happen that a player has posted the big blind and then misses the small blind. If the player returns to the table (if they do not miss the big blind), one need only to place the small blind to get back in the game. The small blind is seen as dead money to the pot and if the player wants to play he should complete the big blind, call or raise. He can also raise himselve. It is also possible to come back to the table again and wait for the big blind to come along. In this way you do not have to put dead money in the pot to get back into play.
ACTION OUTSIDE YOUR TURN: If a player bets, raises or check before his turn, it is common for this action to be declared as binding. Even if there is no action for him, the action stayes binding. This prevents a player trying to obtain information from players that have not yet acted.
ALL-IN: If a player does not have enough money to call, he can still play with the pot. The money from the player goes all-in. If two or more other players add money to the pot, a second pot is started. The player who went all-inn is not entitled to this second pot.
PURCHASE AMOUNT: The lower limits of the required purchase amount, so called buy-in, for all games are normally 10 times the minimum bet limit of the game. In higher limits, e.g. $ 50-100 and higher, the required buy-in is 10 times the largest betting limit. Sometimes it is allowed to do a smaller buy-in (called short buy-in) if a player has almost run out of money. A player can only add money to his stackb efore his hand starts. This is called an add-on. Money that is added during the hand does not count.
BUYING THE BUTTON: A player may enter the game between the button and small blind, by adding both blinds to it. The button is the most favorable position for this. When a newcomer buys himself into that position, thats called "buying the button" The small blind is added as dead money to the pot and the large blind eye to the player in the appropriate position, as also happens to the big blind. With the following hand the blinds go back to normal. The newcomer pays the big blind when its his turn to do so.
BLINDS: All games played with a dealer button, the two players left of the button have to place the blinds. The big blind is the amount of the small bet limit. (Eg $ 10-20 limit, the big blind $ 10). The small blind is usually half the big blind or rounded to as close as half the big blind. Each player must bet the big blind to join a game. He may also decide to wait until the big blind has come around. If a player sits out for a round, he has to pay both blinds or wait until the big blind comes along.
WORKING TOGETHER: This is a form of cheating. If you find that this happens in the game, report immediatly to the supervisor of the casino or send an email to the support of the online poker room.
LIMIT: The game is structured with a betting limit. In a $10-20 Limit the small blind is $5 and big blind $10. In the first round, the maximum bet limit is $10. Normally there are two betting rounds with the small bet limit of $10 and two rounds with the high betting limit of $20. There are also variations where the limit is set by the pot or where there's no limit set.
NO LIMIT: There is no limit to the bet amount. A player may bet anything (as long as its equal or more than two times the big blind) when its his turn. If the player can't place the bet, but he wants to play, then he can go all-inn.
ONE PLAYER PER HAND: Only one can play a hand. So he doesn't play with help or support from anyone else outside the game. Accordingly, to debate hands while one hand is busy is seen as impolite. Never Ask a player if he has a diamond card in his hand or which hand he has folded.
SPREAD LIMIT: spread limit games are usually a minimum and maximum bet e.g. $2 - $20. No commitment may be less than $2 or $20 higher than his. All values in between may be.
EXTRA CHIP: If two or more players have the same hand, the pot is equaly divided. If one chip is left, this will go - all games played with a dealer button - to the player left of the button. If one chip remains in a 7 Card Stud games, he goes to the player with the highest type of card. In Hi/Lo games, the chip goes to the highest hand. If there are two or more high hands / low hands, the same rule applies as in the dealer button game.
RAKE AND TIME COSTS: Most places have local laws that allow poker casinos a certain percentage of the pot in rake to collect. Rake after each hand cashed. Time costs are the costs that a player pays when he plays the game. For example, if a player leaves to lunch, he does not have to pay rake, but he must pay for the period when his seat is not occupied. Time is normally collected in the first pot, but can also be collected individually by each player when they sit down again after having been away.
TABLE STACKS: All the money that a player has on the table (called Stack) has to saty in play until the player exit the game. Sometimes an exception is made for cash money. When a hand starts, a player may only play with the money he hasin front of him. There should be no money added to the stack until the hand is played out. Also giving money from your stack to that of another player is not allowed.
